Freedom of Information Laws by Country: 2006

The right of access to ifnormation in guaranteed in the constitutions of many countries. A growing number of countries have enacted freedom of information acts (FOIAs) enabling people to obtain information held by the government. A 2006 survey identified 69 countries with freedom of information laws (Banisar 2006), and many other countries are considering such legislation.
