Addressing gender equality and women’s empowerment has been elevated recently in the climate agenda, becoming a key aspect under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Many countries have been taking the initiative to strengthen their focus on gender equality as they revised and enhanced their national climate commitments to promote equitable climate action. Eswatini and Mozambique are two such countries that successfully revised their NDCs and are now on the path of converting policy into action.

For Eswatini and Mozambique, this strengthening of gender equity considerations within their NDCs was led by members of World Resources Institute’s Gender Equity Practice, enabled by the NDC Partnership platform which provides nations support in enhancing their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

Through this event, we will shed more light on the NDC Partnership’s process and WRI’s support to the two countries in enhancing gender equity within their NDCs. This will be followed by presentations by representatives from Eswatini and Mozambique on how they plan to move forward towards their climate commitments while ensuring that their outcomes advance gender equity.
