Innovative technologies hold great potential to reduce humanity’s impact on the climate system while improving quality of life. WRI works with various partners to advance viable technology options throughout the global economy that lead directly to major reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

• Carbon Capture and Storage—working with stakeholders to ensure high environmental, health and social standards in carbon capture and storage projects.
• Green Power/Renewable Energy—working with leading companies to develop corporate markets for renewable energy use in the United States and Europe.
  
• Sustainable Transportation—creating technically and environmentally sound solutions to the problems of urban transit.
  
• Biofuels—assessing the impact of agricultural biofuel production policies on the environment.

Green Power/Renewable Energy Use

The burning of fossil fuels—coal, oil, and natural gas—is the largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. Alternative “green” energy sources such as wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass are widely available but are still a small fraction of energy supply. WRI works to enhance use of clean, renewable energy sources and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.
